WELCOME to the Weekly Cancer Event Update, an e-newsletter for the faculty and staff of the OSUCCC – James that appears every Tuesday and includes important upcoming meetings, conferences, seminars, workshops, lectures and presentations. Faculty and staff are encouraged to submit news items by 5 p.m. on the Thursday before the requested Tuesday placement. If you miss the deadline, the item will appear in the following week’s issue if the date of the event is still valid. As a former football player at Ohio State and in the NFL, Springs sustained or witnessed his share of concussions. All faculty and staff are invited to hear the story of how a car seat that saved his son’s life inspired him to protect future players from concussions and traumatic brain injuries.

Patients and caregivers are invited to this FREE conference featuring OSUCCC – James experts talking about the latest developments in GI cancers. The event will include a keynote address by Jeffrey VanDeusen, MD, PhD, Associate Director for Community Network Relations at the OSUCCC – James, and updates on the treatment, genetics, research and clinical trials for GI cancers. There also will be breakout sessions for caregivers.

This one-day retreat is based on Relationship-Based Care (RBC) principles and will focus on developing resilient and compassionate caregivers/staff. It is intended primarily for staff members who have not attended a two- or three-day RBC retreat in the past.

The conference will include a keynote presentation by a head and neck cancer survivor, as well as an expert panel and resource tables to give updates on treatment and research, symptom management, surveillance for recurrence, nutrition and support resources.

Cancer Rehabilitation Through the Continuum 2018: Neuro-Oncology
Presented by the OSUCCC – James and Michigan Medicine Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation
Danto Auditorium, on the Campus of Michigan Medicine, University of Michigan
This one-day symposium will provide participants, through case studies and lectures, with updated concepts of care for the neuro-oncology patient, from acute care admission through outpatient management. Presenters will provide age-specific case studies from both the adult and pediatric care paradigms, and clinical experts will share their experiences.
Tuition is $135 (individual rate; group tuition not available)
