Dear Friend,
Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Stefanie Spielman Fund eNewsletter. We are so thankful for all of our supporters and advocates for breast cancer research and efforts around the country, and we want to share their work and the impact they are making. Through the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute, lives are changed through research and care for all those affected by breast cancer.
Our hope is that you’ll continue to engage with us through events, advocacy and fundraising. We also hope you’ll share your stories with us on Facebook and Twitter.

| Stefanie’s Champions |
Join Event Chair Chris Spielman and the 2013 Honorary Chairs, Coach Urban and Shelley Meyer, to celebrate the 2013 Stefanie's Champions at a luncheon on Wednesday, April 10, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in The Ohio Union Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom on The Ohio State University campus. Stefanie's Champions annually honors those whose dedication and strength were powerful influences in the lives of cancer survivors. Stefanie and Chris Spielman established Stefanie's Champions to recognize one of the most critical factors in surviving cancer: loving, unwavering support. Along with our five selected Champions, we'll also honor our 2013 Champion of Hope Award recipient: Shannon Peterson. The Champion of Hope Award honors those who give selflessly of their time, energy and commitment to help the cancer community while furthering the mission of the Spielman Fund. Proceeds from the luncheon benefit The Stefanie Spielman Patient Assistance Fund and The Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research.

| JD Equipment, Inc. is a proud partner of the Spielman Fund and recently announced that they raised $28,000 in 2012 for the fund. Beginning in January 2012, a portion of each sale of John Deere Select Series riding lawn mowers sold by regional JD Equipment, Inc. stores comes directly to the fund. JD Equipment, Inc. has been contributing to the Stefanie Spielman Fund since 2010. They’ve seen growing success with $26,000 raised in 2011, in addition to the 2012 donation for a total of $54,000 raised with this promotion. JD Equipment, Inc. principals presented a check for $28,000 from the 2012 promotion to Maddie and Noah Spielman on the 2013 Buckeye Cruise for Cancer earlier this month.

Jersey Mike’s
Ohio State’s Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC – James) is partnering with Jersey Mike’s in their Month of Giving to benefit breast cancer research at the OSUCCC – James. Throughout March, when you have lunch or dinner at Jersey Mike’s, you can make a $1, $3 or $5 donation at the register to the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Breast Cancer Research at the OSUCCC – James. And on March 27, be sure to plan for lunch at any of the 14 Jersey Mike’s locations in central Ohio, when 100% of the proceeds from your order will benefit the Stefanie Spielman Fund. |
H&R Block
Through the H&R Block Nonprofit Referral Program, new clients can help raise money for the Stefanie Spielman Fund by taking the Spielman Fund flier when they work with H&R Block to file their tax returns. For each new client who presents the flier, H&R Block will give $20 to the fund. To find the nearest H&R Block office, visit www.hrblock.com. |

| In addition to Stefanie’s Fund for Breast Cancer Research, there is also a fund named the Stefanie Spielman Fund for Patient Assistance at the OSUCCC – James that assists breast cancer patients and their families who are struggling to afford the costs associated with treatment. The fund provides essential equipment and services, including circulation pumps for lymphedema, compression garments, wigs, nutrition supplements, gas cards, restaurant gift cards and assistance with transportation. Many families were helped through the Patient Assistance Fund this holiday season, and one thank you note we received truly shares what an impact gifts to the fund made in their life: |
| “…We are simply blessed to be a part of this wonderful family and organization. It means the world to us, and we cannot begin to explain how very grateful we are. It has been one very stressful and scary year for sure, watching our son fight cancer, but I can’t think of a better or safer place of treatment for him than [The] James. They are wonderful and always kept a smile on his little face during this difficult time in his life. Thanks again so much!” |

| When 9-year-old Hannah Jennings found out her mom had breast cancer, her immediate instinct was, “How can I help?” So while her Mom, Nicole, was going through treatment, Hannah hosted lemonade stands and bead key chains and bracelets to sell to neighbors and friends for a donation of 25 cents or “however much you want to donate to breast cancer research.” All of her hard work showed when she was able to make a gift of almost $70 in change and small bills to the Spielman Fund this month. Thank you, Hannah, for your hard work! |
