OSU CANCER RESEARCH PROMINENTLY FEATURED AT ASCO ANNUAL MEETING

Clara Bloomfield ASCO 2014

Scientific abstracts on recent studies by several researchers in Ohio State’s cancer program were displayed at the 50th annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), which was held from May 30-June 3 in Chicago under the theme “Celebrating 50 years of Progress Against Cancer.”

A number of Ohio cancer researchers attended the meeting, including Clara D. Bloomfield, MD (left), a Distinguished University Professor who also serves as cancer scholar and senior adviser to the OSUCCC – James. Bloomfield is being honored in 2014 as one of 50 ASCO Luminaries in Oncology.

In observance of its 50th anniversary, ASCO is highlighting the accomplishments of some of the many people who have helped advanced cancer care to where it is today in an "Oncology Luminaries" series. Stories about these scientists are appearing throughout the year on the ASCO website. More than 20 have been posted so far; the others, including Bloomfield’s, will follow at regular intervals.

Bloomfield also gave welcoming remarks (see photo) at this year's Scarlet and Gray Reception held by the OSUCCC – James every year at the ASCO annual meeting.
