GENERAL ASSEMBLY ANNOUNCES STATE CANCER CAUCUS

Ohio Sen. Jim Hughes and Ohio Rep. Anne Gonzales announced the formation of the Ohio Cancer Caucus for the 129th General Assembly on May 19 at the Statehouse.

Hughes said the caucus is needed to increase awareness of critical issues in the cancer community, highlighting the significant physical, emotional and economic impacts of cancer.

Gonzales said the bipartisan caucus, which will involve members of both the House and Senate, will meet quarterly starting in June.

Also involved in the announcement was Joseph Flynn, DO, MPH, co-director of the Division of Hematology at Ohio State and a member of the Cancer Control Program at the OSUCCC – James. Flynn said he was appearing on behalf of all the brave cancer patients across Ohio to applaud the efforts of Hughes and Gonzales to acknowledge this important issue.

The cancer caucus has been active in past years, and Flynn said previous actions by this group have led to significant improvements in cancer care.
